President Joe Biden has selected Admiral Lisa Franchetti to be the Navys top officer. Franchetti who is currently serving as the vice chief of naval operations commissioned in and has served as the commander of US Naval Forces Korea. She has also commanded two carrier strike groups and became the Vice CNO in September. Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville has vowed to maintain his hold in protest of Pentagon reproductive health policies that were announced earlier this year which among other things include a travel allowance for service members and dependents who must travel out of state to receive an abortion because of their states laws. She will likely join a growing contingent of senior general and flag officers who are not confirmed for their next position quickly as Republican Tubervile has continued his hold of senior military nominations. She is a graduate of West Point and the Naval War College and served in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. She was also a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the US Air Force National Guard before joining the Navy. She served in Korea as the deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Warfighting Development and director for Strategy Plans and Policy of the joint Staff according to her official biography. Her husband is a retired Rear Admiral who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and served as a captain in the Navy Air Force and Air Force. He is a veteran of the Gulf War and the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in Afghanistan and the Gulf of Mexico as a lieutenant commander. He has been married to his wife for more than 30 years and they have two children. He was married for 20 years and has a son and a daughter. He currently lives in Virginia and is the father of one of the Navy’s senior enlisted men. He also has a daughter and a son-in-law who are both serving in the military and are currently stationed in San Diego, California. He previously worked in the Air Force as the Chief of Staff of the Naval Reserve at the Naval Base at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. His wife is also a former Air Force Reserve officer and served on the Joint Joint Chiefs and the Navy Logistics Command at the time of his appointment to the vice CNO position in September of this year. The couple have a daughter who was born in 1998. He and his wife have a son who is now a senior enlisted man at the Navy base at Camp Pendleton, California and is also the father-of-one at the Marine Corps Air Station at San Diego. He will be sworn in as the Navy CNO later this month. He plans to serve as the CNO until the end of the year when he retires from the Navy in December. He says he has no immediate plans to retire from the military. He said he will continue to hold his current position until he is confirmed as CNO.
