Former President Donald Trumps CIA directors Mike Pompeo and Gina Haspel were Cabinetlevel posts but Biden chose not to include the post in his Cabinet when taking office. The decision reflects the integral role the CIA plays in our national security decisionmaking at this critical time, Biden said. The CIA is delivering a cleareyed longterm approach to our nations top national security challenges from tackling Russias brutal aggression against Ukraine to managing responsible competition with the Peoples Republic of China to addressing the opportunities and risks of emerging technology Biden wrote in a. statement. He added that Burns has always given me clear straightforward analysis that prioritizes the safety and security of the American people reflecting the importance of the CIA in our nation’s national security. The move is a symbolic measure that nonetheless represents the major role that the CIA has played in national security amid Russias invasion of the Ukraine. The post of CIA Director has been a Cabinetlevel post for several years but was not included in President Obama’s Cabinet when he took office in 2009. The position is expected to be filled by CIA Director John Brennan in the next few months. It will be the first CIA director to hold the position in the Obama administration. The job has been held by a woman since 1981. The last two CIA directors have been women. The current CIA director is CIA Director Gina Hspel who was appointed by President George H.W. Bush in 2009 and served through the first term of the Obama Administration. She was the first female CIA director in the Bush administration to serve in a Cabinet level position. The new CIA director will take up his post in the coming months. The agency will be based in Washington, D.C. and will work with the National Security Council on national security issues. The director will also be responsible for managing the CIA’s relationship with other intelligence agencies such as the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security. It has been the case for the past few years that the director of national security is a woman and not a man. The White House has not confirmed a replacement for the CIA director for the position of Director of National Security for the time being. The appointment will be announced in the near future and will be followed by an announcement of a new director of the National Intelligence Agency in the weeks to come.
