DeSantis: Trump’s 2020 election fraud theories were ‘unsubstantiated’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday that the theories put out by former President Donald Trump and his associates following the election were unsubstantiated and did not prove to be true . Comments come a day after Trump the current frontrunner for the GOP nomination pleaded not guilty in a Washington DC court house to four criminal charges brought against him days earlier by special counsel Robert Smith as part of his investigation into efforts to overturn the election leading up to the January attack on the US Capitol . The Florida governor has previously pivoted and emphasized a focus on the future not the past when faced with questions surrounding the election . He has also sought to distance himself from the January riot in Washington D.C. He said if elected president he would pardon Trump if he were to be convicted following comments he recently made on Outkick with Clay Travis . He also said that if elected President he would pardoned Nixon or Ford pardoning Nixon . DeSantas said he would do the same thing he did in a recent Outkick interview that he would be looking forward to the future of the presidential race and would not be looking backwards and be mired in the past . In early June at an event in Bluffton South Carolina the week after he launched his campaign an attendee in the rope line asked DeSantsants said he had nothing to do with what happened that day. He has been asked by a high school student if Trump violated the peaceful transfer of power during the election. I have nothing to say. He was asked by the high school. I was asked if he had anything to do. I had nothing. I don’t know what happened. I didn‘t enjoy seeing what happened to what happened . I have no idea what happened
