Former high-level FBI official hoping to resolve criminal case stemming from alleged scheme to help

Charles McGonigal is the former head of counterintelligence for the FBIs New York field office who has been charged with concealing he allegedly received from a former Albanian intelligence employee . The year veteran of the FBI who retired in was charged in January in two separate indictments in New York and DC in the alleged scheme and for allegedly working with a sanctioned Russian oligarch after he retired . His attorney said there was a decent chance the case is going to be resolved without having to go to trial and that they should know for certain just after Labor Day . It is unclear what a plea agreement would look like and what charges ultimately he might plead guilty to . Judge Colleen KollarKotelly set another hearing for September . In New York a status report on that matter is due on Tuesday in the case charged in the New York case is due to be due on Monday . McGononigel has pleaded not guilty to both indictments. It is not clear what charges he might be charged in that case is expected to look like in that matter to be filed against him in Washington D. C. J. A. O’Neill said he would not be allowed to plead guilty in the other case . He said he was interested in seeing the rest of the prosecutors discovery in his own case in the next hearing on Tuesday.
