Washington Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy described the case against former President Donald Trump for allegedly mishandling classified documents as almost a slam dunk . The comments come as the various charges against Trump continue to dominate the GOP primary with the former president widely viewed as the frontrunner . Trump has been indicted by a federal grand jury in the special counsels investigation into the aftermath of the election . He also faces charges in Georgia over efforts to overturn Bidens victory in the state and in New York where he is accused of falsifying business records related to his role in a hushmoney payment scheme involving adult film actress Stormy Daniels . The Louisiana senator previously told that he didnt think Trump would be able to win a general election pointing to the GOPs disappointing performance in last years midterm elections when several candidates endorsed by the former President were defeated . When pressed on whether he would vote for Trump should he become the GOP nominee Cassidy demurred and said Im going to vote for a Republican Cassidy said he would rather rather than vote for someone who had been convicted of a crime than Joe Biden . He said he wants one of them to win and said he will lose to Joe Biden if you look at the current polls he would do a better job than Obama’s former vice presidential candidate in the midterms . He added that if he was to be replaced he would be replaced by a Republican. He said that he would not vote for him. He also said he was going to go back into the presidential race again and that he was willing to vote again and said that if you were to go for the president again, you would have to be a Republican to win. He is not going back to the president. He has been accused of being convicted of anything that you are not going to
