House Republicans are still scrambling to find a path forward with less than two months until the government runs out of funding . The right wing of the GOP conference is still insisting it needs to see more spending cuts in order to support a series of bills to avert a government shutdown . The impending spending showdown will come just as lawmakers are also contending with a potential impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden and as the House and Senate have divisions in the annual defense policy bill they need to iron out . Even passing a shortterm spending measure a socalled continuing resolution or CR will only kick the inevitable fight down the right and could still risk enraging House Speaker Kevin McCarthys right flank . House Republicans expected to huddle Monday evening at p.m. ET to discuss spending and other issues including investigations a chance to check in during a sixweek recess not scheduled to end until midSeptember . The Senate also still has to pass all of their bills to get back into their respective respective appropriations bills to avoid a shutdown. Lawmakers will also need to pass a short term spending measure to give them more time to negotiate but a CR could be a heavy lift. There are a lot of things colliding one House Republican member told Friday. The Senate is also still having to pass their own defense policy bills. The House is also looking at its own internal budget and internal budget issues to determine what to do with its own budget and its own national security issues to ensure it doesn’t get back to the table.
