The group of Republicans were charged this week with state felonies for signing certificates falsely proclaiming that former President Donald Trump won the election in Michigan. None of defendants have entered a plea but several have said they dont think they did anything wrong. The arraignments will take place on August at the Ingham County District Court located in Lansing. A forensic scientist with the Michigan State Police also scrutinized the signatures on a fake election certificate comparing them to the known signatures for the fake electors. The fake electors were likely following media coverage of the election investigators wrote. At the time the GOP leaders of the Michigan state legislature publicly announced there was no evidence of voter fraud sufficient to affect the results the filing points out. Also the charging documents mention that three fake elector were plaintiffs in a frivolous election lawsuit that was rejected by a federal judge who blasted their attempt to ignore the will of millions of voters. The defendants have accused Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel of weaponizing the justice system to go after political opponents. Other have said that they didnt realize what they were doing in was possibly illegal. The individuals have not responded to requests for comment about the case. The Michigan attorney general’s office has not commented on the charges against the fake GOP electors but said that the charges are being investigated by the Department of Justice and the Michigan Department of Law Enforcement and that no further action will be taken against any of the defendants until the investigation is complete. The case is expected to be heard by a judge Kristen Simmons who was appointed in by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer a Democrat according to her biography. She previously worked in various roles in state law enforcement as well as a prosecutor and public defender in Lansing and has previously worked as a public defender and prosecutor. The group of fake electors have been charged with felony felonies and are scheduled to appear in court in August. The charges are expected to go before a judge in Lansing, Michigan on August 14. The trial is expected for a date to be announced in the near future and the defendants have not yet commented on whether they will enter a plea or not. It is not known if they will be charged with any felonies or if they face a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison. The false electors were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit perjury and two counts of making false statements to a public official. They were also charged with three counts of violating the law by signing a false election certificate on behalf of the Republican National Committee and the Republican Party of Michigan. They have all been released on $10,000 bail each. They are due back in court on August 15th and the trial is scheduled for August 14th. The judge has yet to announce a date for the hearing and the case has not yet been scheduled for a hearing or a hearing date.
