Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed two bills banning socalled conversion therapy a scientifically discredited practice intended to change a persons sexual orientation for minors in the state . Last month the state legislature voted largely along party lines to advance the ban . The Human Rights Campaign the countrys largest LGBTQ civil rights organization celebrated the signing of the bill and praised Whitmer as a champion for LGBTQ equality . The ban will take effect in late October . In April Minnesotas Democratic Gov. Tim Walz signed a ban on conversion therapy into law in April . Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs also a Democrat signed an executive order that prohibits state resources from being used to support conversion therapy on minors . In late October the ban will go into effect in Michigan. In April the ban was also approved by the Trevor Project a nonprofit organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth. The ban is expected to take effect at the end of this month. In late July. In November the ban is also expected to be implemented by the state. In December. In March the state’s governor signed an order that prohibited state resources. Rick Rick Rick Santorum said he would not allow the practice of conversion therapy to be allowed to engage in conversion therapy in Florida. Rick Santorum has said he will not allow it to be permitted to use the practice. In October. Rick Scott said he has said that he would ‘continue to refuse to allow it. He said he’ll not allow for it’ve said that it is not allowed to use any of his children to participate in any of the state
