Millions of people are set to lose Covid pandemicera benefits this fall. The expiration of these programs will strip away economic assistance that millions of Americans have received for years and still rely on. Lawmakers passed several sweeping pandemic relief packages during and authorizing trillions of dollars in spending on a variety of programs. The laws also put in place some key economic benefit programs long pushed by progressives albeit on a temporary basis. Some aid like direct stimulus payments expanded unemployment benefits and enhanced child tax credits have already expired. But theres still time for other funds like the billions of dollars of aid for K schools to be spent. Millions of Americans are expected to lose Medicaid coverage this fall as states continue reviewing those residents who no longer qualify and disenrolling those who have been barred by Congress from eligibility since the pandemic began. It estimates a total of a million people could be disenrolled from the Rental Assistance program or Rental Rental assistance during the next few months. The American Rescue Plan Act which Democrats in Congress passed in included billion in child care stabilization grants. The average award was for family home providers and for child care centers as of the end of . But the funding expires on September . More than programs could close and about . million kids could lose their spots according to The Century Foundation. The suspension of the requirement that certain adults work in order to get food stamps will start in October unless they fulfill the mandate or live in a waived area with high unemployment or limited jobs. Those ages and will be subject to the work requirement starting in the fall of though the expansion beyond age only lasts until the fall. Prior to the temporary limit in the temporary increase in the age limit for Medicaid coverage. States have months to complete the unwinding process but states have already terminated the majority of people who had their coverage terminated for procedural reasons such as not completing renewal forms. The clock on the time limit started in July and is set to run out in October. The deadline for states to unwinding their coverage is October 1. It is estimated that about 1 million people will have been affected by the temporary end of the public health emergency which ended in May. The amount of people affected by that emergency has not yet been determined. The time frame for unwinding the coverage is about a year and a half and states have until October 1 to complete their unwinding processes.
