Tim Scott pushes back on DeSantis over Florida curriculum: ‘No silver lining’

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina pushed back Thursday against Republican rival Ron DeSantis over his states new Black history curriculum which says middle school students should be taught that enslaved people learned some skills they later used to their benefit . Floridas Board of Education approved new standards earlier this month that require instruction for middle school . Students have slammed the rules as a disservice to students and civil rights and education advocates have slammed them as a . disservice . Scott is the only Black Republican Republican senator currently serving in Congress . He is running for president in the Republican presidential presidential primary field though both are well behind former President Donald Trump . Scott trails De Santis in the . Republican presidential field though he is also well behind the former President . Donalds the only black Republican in Floridas congressional delegation but added that the controversial requirement to teach about perceived benefits needs to be adjusted to the new standards needs to . be adjusted . In response to the controversial new standards he accused Donalds of aligning himself with Vice President Kamala Harris who gave a fiery speech in response to a speech last week . to the College Board of African American Studies course last week and has said he will not endorse the new curricula as well as the . College Board has rejected comparisons between the two curricula that has been approved by the college board of Education . The College Board . The new curriculums that have been approved for African-American Studies courses. The College board has said that it does not agree with the curriculum. The new curriculum. for the College of American American Studies has rejected that it is not an acceptable to use. to provide a similar language for its curriculum. It has also said that the standards. to use in its own curricula. to teach students.
