Chris Krebs confirmed to publicly for the first time Tuesday that he has spoken with investigators. Krebs sat down with special counsel Jack Smiths team in early May. As the director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Krebs rejected Trumps claims of widespread fraud and said there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes changed votes or was in any way compromised. That statement soon led to his firing. The recent statement by Chris Krebs on the security of the Election was highly inaccurate in that there were massive improprieties and fraud Trump wrote online at the time as he repeated other baseless conspiracy theories about the election. The New York Times previously reported that according to a source Krebs had been among those interviewed by Smiths office. The special counsel has also asked witnesses about Trumps knowledge of election security including a February Oval Office meeting where the former president praised improvements to the. security of US elections according to multiple people familiar with the matter before attacking those systems months later. That meeting took place in the White House East Room of the residence of then-President Barack Obama. The White House has declined to comment on whether the meeting was held in the Oval Office or whether it took place at the Whitehouse East Room or the WhiteHouse East Room. It is not known if the former President was present at the meeting or if it was at a private residence in Washington, D.C. or at a hotel in New York City. This is the first public confirmation that Krebs has been interviewed by the special counsel about his firing by President Donald Trump and the timeline surrounding it. It comes as has learned that the special. counsel has been inquiring about Krebs firing and the Timeline surrounding it for months. The former president has been asked about a meeting in February where he praised improvements in election security before attacking them months later, according to sources.
