A new study from the Urban Institute found that Black parents and their children are more likely to experience unfair treatment when seeking medical care than others . The rate at which Black parents reported this treatment was about higher than parents who are White Hispanic or who identify as part of other racial groups . A formula for calculating kidney function called eGFR only allows two options for race . Only . of US doctors are Black and experts warn the shortage harms public health . The unfair treatment could have negative health consequences cause additional stress to patients and lead them to mistrust the health care system to the point of forgoing necessary treatments . The study was conducted online among a nationally representative sample of US adults ages to but the analysis was based on the responses of parents of children under age . It found that in parents who reported experiencing unfair health care treatment were more likely of Black parents were more often to delay treatments after those experiences . The survey was conducted by the UrbanInstitute of the survey was based upon their responses of people of color and their own children . The research is based on data from the National Health Reform Monitoring Survey was conducted in June 2014 and July 2014.
