Hunter Biden’s former business partner Devon Archer is scheduled to give closeddoor testimony on Capitol Hill on Monday . The Justice Department submitted a new request over the weekend asking a judge to schedule a date for Archer to surrender to prison and begin serving out his one-year sentence resulting from a conviction in an unrelated fraud case . The move prompted immediate speculation among some Republicans that the Biden administration was attempting to prevent Archer from answering questions about Hunter Biden before the GOPled House Oversight Committee . In a court filing the government explicitly requested that Archers sentence begin after he completes his congressional testimony . Archers attorney said his client does not believe the DOJ request is connected in any way to the upcoming closeddoor interview despite continuing to fight demands related to scheduling a surrender date . Comes as House Republicans appear to be shifting their focus away from trying to impeach members of President Joe Bidens Cabinet and prioritizing efforts to link him to controversial business dealings by his son Hunter Biden . In recent weeks Speaker Kevin McCarthy has warmed up to an idea of going after the president rather than going after members of his Cabinet rather than focusing on impeaching the president . McCarthy has said he wants to go after the President rather than members of the Biden family of his own Cabinet . The Speaker McCarthy has been consulting with Newt Gingrich on the issue of impeach the president and said he has been working with Gingrich on an impeachment inquiry . House Republicans have been working on the idea of impeaching him . The House has also said that he has also been working for Newt Gingrich and that he is considering the idea.
