Blackpink are the second K-pop artist to earn the title, after BTS in 2020. The quartet – Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé – found international stardom quickly after their 2016 debut. Their first LP, “The Album,” sold more than one million copies in less than a month after its 2020 release. Blackpink currently are performing across Europe until the end of the year as part of their “Born Pink” world tour, which kicked off in October. The group revisited their journey, from playing at Coachella in 2019 to performing “Pink Venom” at the VMAs earlier this year. “If we consider this in the business way, we wouldn’t be able to do this,” Jennie said of performing from the heart. “We put in a lot of work so we could look like superwomen,” rapper Jennie told Time. ‘We’re very normal girls, at theend of the day,” singer Rosé said of the group’s cosmopolitan backgrounds in the studio. “It’s a plus” that they’re all from “different cultures,” dancer Lisa said. ‘It’s like we’re all in the same family,’ singer Jennie added of the cosmopolitan nature of the band. ‘If we were in a different country, we’d be like, ‘Oh my God, what is going to happen to us?’ Rosé asked. ‘I don’t know what to say,’ Jennie replied. ‘What do you want to say to me?’ ‘I just want to ask you a question,’ Rosé responded. ‘How do you feel about it?’ ‘What would you like me to say?’ ‘We’d like to hear it,’ she said, ‘I would like to know what you think about it’ ‘I’d like you to tell me what your thoughts are on it,’ Rosée said. “I would love to hear your thoughts on it,” she added. ‘That’s what I want to hear. I don’t want to know anything else.’ ‘I’m just going to say what I think,’ the group said. The four-woman band is from South Korea, New Zealand, Thailand and Australia. ‘The Album’ was released in September 2016. ‘Born Pink’ is their first album, and they are currently on a world tour across Europe and the U.S. They are currently in the middle of a European leg of their world tour that started in October and will end in December. ‘Pink Venom’ is the first single from the band’s second album, due out in February. ‘This is a very special album,’ said Jennie. ‘There’s a lot more to come,’ said Rosé. ‘When it comes to the music, it’s not just about the music. It’s about the people, too.’ ‘The album’ is due to be released in 2020, and it will be called ‘The Pink Album’ The group is currently on tour in Europe and North America.
Blackpink, the South Korean girl group, has been selected as Time magazine’s Entertainer of the Year 2022.
